2017/2018 FINE ART PROGRAMS AND CLASSES

Monday | Advanced Art and Creative Expression | Ages 11-13

This course is tailored to students with a love of art who have some previous artistic experience in drawing and painting. This course is ideal for students looking to pursue further studies in the arts and build a diverse portfolio. We will be working with both traditional and non traditional elements and principles of art and various media. We will continue to improve our drawing and painting skills through a variety of projects including landscape painting, still life studies, portraiture, abstract art, variety of improvised exercises and more. We will utilize our skills on a variety of expressive projects which will expand our idea process and allow us to unlock our creative spirit without inhibition. These expressive projects are essential in growing as an artist just as much as the detailed studies, because they provide students with the ability to explore new media and freely express themselves, keeping their creative spirit.

Monday | Advanced Art Master Class | Ages 13+

The Advanced Art Master Class is a course rich in art history. Students use various forms of media and their creative capabilities while learning the various historically used techniques necessary to create beautiful works of art and diverse artists portfolios. The course will examine Roman and Greek architecture, styles from the Renaissance, and various other techniques throughout history, leading up to, and including Modern Art.

Thursday | Fine Arts Technique | Ages 10+

Art Fundamentals is a unique course that focuses on expanding student knowledge and skill with specific attention on fundamental techniques and styles of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and various other media. The course is rich in art history and spans many genres of art, time periods, and artists. Students are encouraged to explore history, various forms of media and their creative capabilities while learning the various techniques necessary to create beautiful works of art and diverse portfolios for future use for personal enjoyment or Post Secondary Applications.

Thursday | Portfolio Development and Advanced Art and Creative Expression | Ages 13+

This course is crucial for students who are thinking of a future in fine art, wither it be getting into a art high school or an art university program of their choice, our art instructor has a deep knowledge of the expectations and procedures for these application and interview processes. This program is tailored to students with a love of art who have some previous artistic experience in drawing and painting. This course is ideal for students looking to pursue further studies in the arts and build a diverse portfolio. We will be working with both traditional and non-traditional elements, principles of art and various media. We will continue to improve our drawing and painting skills through a variety of projects including life drawing, landscape painting, still life studies, portraiture, abstract art, a variety of improvised exercises and more. We will use our skills in a variety of expressive projects which will expand our idea process, and allow us to unlock our creative spirit without inhibition. These expressive projects are essential in growing as an artist, just as much as the detailed studies, because they provide the students with the opportunity to explore new media, and freely express themselves, keeping their creative spirit alive!

Friday | Your Creative Mind | Ages 5-7

This course is made for kids who love being creative and artistic. We will explore a variety of projects that will allow for our students to learn the fundamental techniques and terminology used in fine arts. We will then expand through unique project tailored to the interests and skills of the students to get our students to think outside the box! It is never too early to learn how to express yourself through the techniques of fine art! Since our minds are in constant motion and in need of new adventures, each class will explore different projects inspired by a new artist, technique or terminology. We will be kept busy and creatively stimulated while we learn and explore ART. We will use a variety of surfaces and mediums throughout the year, starting with pencil and pastel and moving into paint and sculpture. Our projects will include, water colour painting, pastel drawing, clay sculpting, collage, building and designing, pen and ink, paper mache, still life drawing, portraiture and many more exciting projects.

Friday | Introduction to Mixed Media | Ages 8-10

This course is made for kids who love exploring with different media and creating beautiful works of art. In this class our students explore a wide range of media! This course is made so that students are given the opportunity to explore the wide array of mediums before being given the opportunity to focusing on a medium they love and feel comfortable with. This class is all about the experimental process. We explore various styles through learning about a new technique or terminology each lesson. Though this class our students embark on creative adventures using the traditional mediums such as painting charcoal, pastel, and clay. We also explore various other artistic genres such as collage, design, composition and many more. The possibilities are endless for exploration and creativity! This class allows our students to become the artists they wish to be.

Saturday | Meet the Masters! | Ages 5-7

Rich in art history, this course introduces the amazing world of art to young artists. Students will explore and create works, based on the techniques and inspirations of famous creators, like Picasso, van Gogh, and da Vinci. Movements such as impressionism, surrealism, cubism, and others will be explored by students, releasing the artist within!

Saturday | Mixed Media | Ages 7-11

Exploring different approaches to creating beautiful works of art, the Mixed Media course introduces students to a variety of artistic styles & genres from traditional paint, charcoal and pastel to collage, design and composition. Such a diverse array of mediums, the artistic possibilities are endless!

Saturday | Drawing People and Animals | Ages 8-13

Exploring the human form, this course focuses on how to draw people with emphasis on structure and anatomy. Upon completion, students will have demonstrated the ability to draw a person in various poses, and in correct proportion with an understanding of bones, muscles, and nomenclature. Part of this course, will focus on animal drawing.

Saturday | Creating Characters | Ages 10+

With an emphasis on anthropomorphism (think Mickey Mouse!), this course focuses on brainstorming and developing unique cartoon characters. Upon completion of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to design a totally unique characters people, animals, monsters, robots, etc. drawn in different poses and actions, and depicting various emotions. This course works well with Figure Drawing and Anatomy.

Saturday | Perspective Drawing | Ages 10+

The Perspective and Design class will explore layout how to draw cities, landscapes and other environments. By the end of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to create their very own unique, three-dimensional drawings using thumbnails, line, value, grids, vanishing points, composition, and other techniques.
