COMPETITIVE DANCE

The Oakville Academy for the Arts is dedicated to providing exceptional training in dance with our well qualified, University educated, experienced and passionate faculty. We are committed to creating a high standard of training, increasing the potential in each dancer. We want each and every dancer to achieve their personal best. The competitive program is structured around growing and training well rounded dancers in all disciplines of dance. Our goal is to develop strong technical dancers creating skills that will promote self-confidence, strong self-esteem, dedication, commitment, teamwork, creativity and a love for the Arts in a professional environment.

At the Oakville Academy for the Arts, Ballet and Jazz are the mandatory disciplines of our Competitive Program. We believe that these two disciplines compliment each other to create a solid technical foundation. Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Acro are highly recommended for our Competitive Dancers, to increase their versatility and training. Our competitive dancers train between 5 -12 hours per week depending on their age and company. If selected for Solo, Duet, Trio, Small Group or Extended Line extra choreography, those additional hours will be added to their schedule. The Competitive Dancers will participate in 4-5 competitions throughout the year, traveling across Ontario and into the United States (if our dollar improves). These Competitions allow the dancers to showcase their talents and performing abilities as well as be adjudicated on their talent and performance skills.

PRE COMPETITIVE TEAM

Dancers should have at least 1 year of dance training in order to be selected for this Invite Only Program. Dancers, who demonstrate positive work ethic, have strong attendance, and technical achievements in their classes will be invited by their Instructor to join the Pre Competitive Team. These classes are specifically taught by a Competitive Faculty member to ensure the best preparation for dancers who wish to continue on in our Competitive Program.
